The former Pentremawr Colliery Site is located 250m east of the village of
Pontyberem in the Gwendraeth Valley. The site extends to 25. 8 ha / 63. 7acres
and is a former coal mine including a historic colliery building, mine shafts
and spoil colliery tips. A railway line runs along the northern boundary, with
the Gwendraeth Fawr River located further to the North. Ground levels at the
site generally fall from the southeast to the northwest. A large ‘tip’ area is
located in the western part of the site and the site is heavily vegetated
throughout.
Public Right of Way
There is a public right of way which crosses the site as shown by a purple
line on the plan below.
Site Assessment
No ground investigations are available however a site risk assessment was
undertaken in 2014 and is available on request but the content of this report
is for information only and should not be relied upon.
Terms of Sale
• Tenure – Freehold.
• Site area – the land to be transferred is as shown edged red on the plan.
The Authority is to retain a half metre strip to the site boundaries. In
addition the land is sold subject to any historical encroachments which have
taken place.
• The site will be transferred subject to covenants included in the conveyance
dated 22nd August 1994 between the British Coal Corporation and Llanelli
Borough Council (a copy can be made available on request).
Method of Sale
Prospective purchasers are invited to submit Expressions of Interest to
include:
• A brief description of your proposal in terms of land use.
• Details of purchaser’s background and any similar schemes undertaken.
• Financial offer.
• A timetable for your proposal.
Submissions by 28th March and will be evaluated on the basis of the proposal
and the financial offer and the Council are not bound to accept the highest or
any offer.
