Road noise. The house is located on the busy Cardiff Road, however, the
current owners made substantial changes to greatly reduce or virtually
eliminate road noise in the house. The front door was renewed with an
efficient seal and double - glazed skylight above. In addition, a porch with
another door was made in the hallway near the front door. In the lounge bay
window, triple - glazed units were sealed into the original frames. In the large
bedroom above, additional panes were sealed into the original frame and a new
triple - glazed wooden structure with tight - fitting doors was added. In the top
bedroom, a hinged, secondary double - glazed unit was constructed on the inside
of the original window. This has a very efficient seal when closed. The owners
did not make any changes to the small road - facing bedroom as this was used as
a storeroom. However, a hinged double - glazed unit of the kind fitted in the
top bedroom could be added to eliminate traffic noise. The basement front room
window is relatively small and double glazed, which cuts down road noise
substantially.
Parking. There is no parking at the house, however, there is a large carpark
just a few hundred yds away (quickest access is via lane to left of front of
house). This is free for the first two hours, after 6pm and all - day on Sunday.
However, the owners usually park a few hundred yds further away around the
village green which has dozens of free - parking spots. The owners inform us
that they have never had any problem parking in the immediate vicinity. As
regards loading and unloading, the pavement a couple of doors up from the
house is easily wide enough for a car and pedestrians. Nobody, including the
police who passed by on one occasion when we were unloading, has ever
complained when we park there to load or unload.
